Dragons are on the warpath. Two heroes will risk everything to protect the ones they love.
Bailey Monzac slays dragons. Between her imperviousness to their flames and the training she received from the shape-shifter Aidan, Bailey can finally hold her own. When her ally is called away for clan business, the slayer must go solo to investigate a horrifying case of children being abducted by dragons. And the only way she can find them is by killing a whole lot of the fire-breathing beasts.
Aidan’s father is dying. The pendragon will appoint a successor through a brutal competition, and Aidan may be the only one willing to play by the rules. Escaping with his life could be his toughest challenge yet.
If these natural-born enemies can survive their quests, Bailey and Aidan will still have to face an even greater battle to prevent their territory from going up in flames.

Dancing with Flames Book 2 Dragon Breath Series eBook Susan Illene Reviews
I enjoyed this book immensely. Bailey really grew as a character and her and Aiden's relationship grew steadily despite them being apart for some of the book. I also enjoyed watching Bailey and Phoebe become better friends. There was also plenty of action and intrigue which made the book interesting.
What is unusual about this author is that they use different points of view in the same story. However it is done in such a way that it complements the story. That and the overall story makes for a Great Read
I really loved this book, probably even more than the first book in the series. Bailey is coming into her own as a force to be reckoned with as Aiden is trying to navigate dragon politics. The action was great, and I really liked getting to know Aiden's family better as well as more about the human's life. This was a great sequel - loved it!
I love this series and I didn't want Dancing With Flames to end.
As the book begins dragons have been on earth for four months. Between the dragons and the various environmental events (earthquakes, storms, etc.) caused by the dragons' world meshing with ours, there has been an apocalypse of sorts and people are dealing with the fall of the industrialized world. Bailey, our heroine and dragon slayer, is living in an enclave mostly inhabited by her college friends. They forage for food and supplies, protect themselves from gangs, and try and stay out of sight of the dragons. Bailey is honing her slaying skills with the help of Aidan, our hero and a dragon shifter. As she and her friend Conrad are driving she is flagged down by a desperate man. He asks Bailey to save his neighbor's son who has been taken by a dragon. The dragon comes back every night to look for more children. This starts the ball rolling for Bailey's part of the book.
As well as training Bailey, Aidan has a lot on his plate. His father, the pendragon, has decided to step down in two weeks and gives each of his children a task they must complete to be considered for the position as his successor. Aidan is given the task of forging a treaty with another clan. With the succession up for grabs, there is a fair amount of jockeying for position among the candidates. Some is political and some is deadly.
One of the things I love about Susan Illene's books is that neither the hero nor the heroine is a sidekick. They have their own stuff to do and exist separately from each other. That makes the scenes when they are together so much better. There are a lot of series where one of the two MCs is more of a helper than a person in their own right. This is never a problem with Ms. Illene. Even her minor characters have lives outside of their interactions with the MCs.
Having said that, I love Bailey most. Here is a quote "A few days of staying at Earl's again had reminded me how I wasn't much of a people person. Sure, I enjoyed saving them. I just didn't want to have to actually talk to them beyond saying 'Go hide, I'll take care of this.'" The action scenes mostly involve Bailey and there's a particularly breathtaking one in which Bailey and Aidan's sister take down a dragon together.
The story picks up a lot of speed in this book and I was not ready for it to end. Waiting until October for the next book will suck.
In fact, I was bored until 50%. The first book was exciting from the beginning. This book was a struggle for me to stay with. I agree with other reviewers that Bailey and Aiden should have spent more time together. The surrounding characters were great. I love Phoebe. Very strong and loving. Their father was an ass. I suspect Zoran and Ruari behaved the way their father did to his siblings. Which is why none of them were there to fight for pendragon. I expect Ruari to die. Such a coward. I just love Conrad. He always has the slayer's back. I'm hoping her father is more present in the next book.
I actually like this one better than the first. Bailey is a strong character and a force to be reckoned with. Phoebe is also a great character. Aiden is an enigma and I really like his discipline, strength, and integrity. Ruari and Zoran make great antagonists, making me want to see them get what is coming to them. The hierarchy of the shifters and dragons is explored, as well as the machinations to undermine certain factions of their societies. Forged by Flames is going on my pre-order list!
Excellent book. Strong, intelligent and interesting characters. Good plot and development. I always enjoy strong female characters that are complex . I also enjoy male characters that are secure enough to appreciate their strength. Bailey and Phoebe are strong women, and Aiden and Doner appear to be the kind of men capable of appreciating such a woman's worth. I look forward to the continuing series.
